Answers to Patriotic 60s Quiz

Catherine • July 8, 2012 • Comments (0)

In honor of the Birthday of our Country, The Midtown Club offered this “patriotic” take on a 60s music quiz!

Congratulations to our winners – Sally B., Sharon W., Tricia B., Debra S., Kim C. and Carol T.!  They were all able to fill in the correct lyrics (see below) to these patriotic songs from the 1960s.

This song was the #1 hit in the U.S. for five weeks in 1966 and sold over nine million records:

100 men will test today,
but only three
 win THE GREEN BERET

This 1963 single written by Leiber & Stoller peaked at #25:

ONLY IN AMERICA
Can a kid without a cent
Get a break and maybe grow up to be President

This folk rock song, released in late 1968, was a major American hit :

Can you tell me where he’s gone?
I thought I saw him walk up over the hill,
With ABRAHAM MARTIN AND JOHN

This patriotic song was written about two companions searching for the true meaning of America in the 1960s:

Counting the cars
On the New Jersey Turnpike
They’ve all come
TO LOOK FOR AMERICA

This patriotic folk song was penned in 1940, but was brought back to life in the 1960s, when several folk singers recorded their own versions:

As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
THIS LAND WAS MADE FOR YOU AND ME
