One Fan’s Take on Daniel Reichard’s “professionally phenomenal performance”

Written by Fan Correspondent Anthony Gigli:

Birdland is the classic venue for the depth and flawlessness of Daniel’s voice. He was joined by Elad Kabilio and Amy Connolly. He intertwined the classics of the Holiday season with funny banter as well as witty, funny memories of Christmas growing up in his large Irish catholic family. His gorgeous gray suit, bow tie, dancing and ravishly awesome red shoes all made us feel, as he alluded early in the show, as if we were going to a Decked Out party at his apartment. Boscoe made a special appearance as well! My own personal highlight was when he resorted to his training, he said from the stage, after the microphone unexpectedly went out during an amazing version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – he carried on without missing a beat.

Decked Out is the theme of the show and Daniel certainly put on a professionally phenomenal performance backed by an amazing group of musicians led by Jesse Vargas.

After last night, my personal wish is to make this a yearly tradition to come to NYC for Daniel’s annual Holiday show!

The Midtown Men: Live In Concert – Fan’s Perspective

• December 14, 2014 • Comments (2)

Written by Fan Correspondents Norene and John Howard:

What a thrill to have THE MIDTOWN MEN in our home this past weekend. Well, okay, appear on our television.  Saturday, November 29th at 7:00pm there was a halt in all activities here on the east coast as many of us prepared to view the premier television broadcast of The MIDTOWN MEN’S National Concert Tour on PBS. John & I set the lights low, lit a cozy fire and cranked up the volume on our Bose in preparation for the concert.  While having seen The Men perform live 27 times, I have to admit my heart was pounding a bit just prior to the bewitching hour; yes it was in anticipation of seeing The Midtown Men on television, but more to the point it was being excited and thrilled for them to showcase their talent to a whole new audience.

Filmed May 28th, 2014 at the beautiful venue of NJPAC in Newark, NJ, one may say we have been waiting for six months to see this project come to television, but they would be wrong.   I venture to say all of the longtime loyal supporters of The Midtown Men have been waiting since attending their first concert – most of us as long as four years.  Up until this time all we had were amateur YouTube snippets to give us a visual remembrance.  Alas, when we make our donation to our local PBS station we will have a full length professional copy of this event and we can relive the great moments in between attending another performance.

We were so very fortunate to have attended the taping of this performance along with many long time Midtown Men fans. It was a great social evening to share our passion with others of the same mindset.  The PBS broadcast was superb!!!! It captured the energy, the voices and choreography of this multi-talented foursome to a “T”.  An added bonus of this broadcast was having the opportunity to view their performance from many vantage points beyond the seats we held.  These men are consummate entertainers; for those of us who were in attendance we witnessed the cameras  in their faces (at times it seemed like less than only a foot away); I swear they could see J. Robert’s tonsils – they were that close.  In addition to the airing of the Live Performance at NJPAC, watching the PBS Fundraiser, we were treated to interviews with The Men to learn more about their journey, to experience their sense of humor and given another opportunity to hear them sing.

As I view THE MIDTOWN MEN’S Facebook page, I see that more and more PBS stations are picking up their show.  We are so excited for them in that a whole new audience is being created for them.  As most of us know they are not only extremely talented in what they do but they are always so kind, generous with their time and appreciative of their fans.  I often wonder how many photographs they have taken with fans – they must be in The Guinness Book of World Records.

Not only do we send our CONGRATULATIONS AND OUR WISHES FOR MUCH MORE CONTINUED SUCCESS  to you – Michael, Christian, Daniel and J. Robert, we THANK YOU  for producing this DVD and CD for all of us to enjoy whenever we want.

In closing this would not be complete without acknowledging the FABULOUS seven member band that accompany THE MIDTOWN MEN performance after performance.  These men are truly talented in their own right and are certainly the best complement to The Midtown Men.

Can’t wait to receive our DVD and CD.

THANK YOU Michael, Christian, Daniel and J.Robert – YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!

Norene & John

PS Through my “magic mirror” I could see Audrey, Frank, Doreen, Anthony, Barbara, Pat, Bob, Tricia, Andie and Catherine in the audience…what fun!

For the seventh time, Broadway and concert hall star Daniel Reichard (Jersey Boys, The Midtown Men, New York City Opera’s Candide) will perform his solo holiday show in New York City. This year’s concert is entitled “Daniel Reichard’s Decked Out Holiday Party” and will deck the halls of Birdland Jazz Club on December 14th at 6 PM and 15th at 7 PM.

This year, patrons are invited to be his guest at a joyous, seasonal celebration. Festive, dressy, or “decked out” attire is suggested. Backed by a seven-piece band of first-rate musicians, Reichard will present favorite songs from past Christmas shows, and will introduce many new numbers. Traditional Christmas standards, Hanukkah classics, and non-holiday songs alike will be presented. NY1’s Roma Torre has described previous editions of the show as “an instant rush of holiday spirit. Reichard reclaims the pure magic of Christmas.

Reichard’s special guest, accomplished Israeli cellist, Elad Kabilio will drop by the party, and the evening will be musically directed by Jesse Vargas.

Every year, Reichard donates all of his proceeds to a different charitable organization. For this edition, all proceeds will go to cellist Kabilio’s MusicTalks, a not-for-profit that offers educational concerts with opportunities for participation and conversation that reach children and adults alike, while developing community outreach programs intended to bring music to new audiences.

For reservations to “Daniel Reichard’s Decked Out Holiday Party,” call (212) 581-3080 or click here.   Tickets are $30 to $50, and there is a $10 food and drink minimum. Birdland is located at 315 West 44th St New York, NY, 10036.

Christian Hoff to Appear on PBS Stations for Premier of Midtown Men in Concert

San Diego, CA – Multitalented singer, actor and musician Christian Hoff will appear as a special host on PBS stations in San Diego and Las Vegas in conjunction with the local premier broadcasts of the PBS special The Midtown Men: Live in Concert. Hoff won a Tony Award in 2006 for his portrayal of Tommy DeVito, an original member of the Four Seasons, in the Broadway production of Jersey Boys. He will be live in the KPBS studios in San Diego on Tuesday, December 2, and in the KLVX studios in Las Vegas on Sunday, December 7, for the local premiers. The show’s national premier was Saturday, November 29, on stations NJTV in New Jersey and WNET in New York.

“I can’t express how excited I am about helping PBS to bring The Midtown Men to television. This has been an amazing experience.”  Christian Hoff

The Midtown Men was formed in 2009 by four original members of the Broadway cast of Jersey Boys: Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard, and Tony Award nominee J. Robert Spencer. Jersey Boys, which first took the stage at the La Jolla Playhouse, tells the story of the iconic group The Four Seasons, which featured the legendary Frankie Valli. After more than 1000 performances together on Broadway, the four realized they had developed a passion for the music of the period and decided to continue sharing it with the world.

While putting together a show to celebrate the greatest music of the 1960s, the four soon developed their own signature arrangements of these great tunes. The quartet performs top hits of the 1960s, including music by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Temptations, The Jackson Five and, of course, The Four Seasons. Their performances have received glowing reviews from the NY Daily News, Times Square Chronicles, and longtime Time Magazine Senior Editor Charles Alexander. The group is currently in the midst of a nationwide tour, most recently performing to sold-out houses in Hawaii.
