The Midtown Men Receive Rave Reviews in Midland

The Midtown Men must have been in peak form last night, judging from the reviews coming out of Midland!

Review: Midtown Men rock the house at MATRIX

By Cathy Nelson Price for the Daily News

They didn’t write the songs or even chart the songs that made the whole world sing (and dance), but boy, can the Midtown Men put them over.

Brought to the Midland Center for the Arts as part of the MATRIX:MIDLAND Festival 2013, Broadway’s original “Jersey Boys” (the long-running Broadway hit that chronicled the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons) alums Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Tony award nominee J. Robert Spencer had a full house on its feet Thursday in the MCFTA Auditorium. Backed by a seven-piece onstage band that sounded like double that number, the quartet’s well-honed 90-minute nonstop concert took the audience back to the AM radio days and all those LPs we saved our allowances to buy.

In the keys and vocal arrangements respectful of — but not slavishly faithful to — the artists who launched them, Midtown Men infused the hits of the Four Seasons, Neil Sedaka, the Beatles, the Turtles, the (Young) Rascals, the Zombies, the Monkees, the Mamas and the Papas, and a ton of Motown with the joy that a singer only gets when riding a really great song. This group has evidently figured out how to have fun onstage without losing either crisp diction or pitch.  (click “Read Post” to view post in its entirety)

UPDATE:  6/6/13 10:16 pm

This past February, The Midtown Men played a show in Daytona Beach, FL.  Finally, a show close enough to share with my friends and family!  I gathered a group and we headed down from Jacksonville to make a night of it – three of my sisters, a sister-in-law, three girlfriends, my parents, my father’s brother and sister, her husband and even her grandson and his girlfriend.

We ranged in age from 19 to 80+, and we all had a blast!  Everyone loved the show, and especially loved chatting with The Men afterward.  We closed down the hotel bar sharing memories of the night and of our lives together.  And at breakfast, I remember my aunt saying “I’m so glad we did this, we never get a chance to be together like this.”

We had a little technical difficulty with one of our "photographers." This must have been taken about the time one of the MEN asked "Whose idea was it to let the drunk chick take the picture?"

I’ll always remember her saying that, and remember how good I felt about getting us all together.  I’ll always remember, because that was the last “good” weekend my dad had.  He got sick that very weekend and was in and out of the hospital for two  months.  He is now, as Hospice calls it, “on his journey.”

I don’t dwell on what is to come, but on what has been.  And I will always be thankful for that weekend, for The Midtown Men, who bring so much joy into so many lives, who brought such joy to us that weekend, and who gave me a memory to last a lifetime.

UPDATE:  6/16/13

My father passed away on June 8th.  His life was full of love and laughter, and he will always be remembered for his love of family and his unwavering faith.  He was proud of the work I do for The Midtown Men, and  always eager to hear TMM news.  He was looking forward to October 18 and 19, when we will introduce The Men to Jacksonville, and although he won’t be there in person, I know he will be there in spirit.

Original ‘Jersey Boys’ cast creates nostalgic vibe at Matrix:Midland as the Midtown Men

By Sue White | For

MIDLAND, MI – Remember the iconic poster that came out a few years ago, when “Jersey Boys” took Broadway by storm?

“We’re the four guys with their backs to the camera, facing the spotlights,” said J. Robert Spencer, calling about The Midtown Men concert coming Thursday, May 30, to the Matrix:Midland Festival. “I’m the one all the way to the left.”

But that’s just the beginning of what Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Spencer bring to the stage today. Sure, they’ll do the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons songs that put them on the map, but it’s wide open from there, Spencer said, as they explore the music of the ‘60s.

On The Road Again

• May 18, 2013 • Comments (0)

After a little much deserved time off, The Midtown Men are back on the road, giving it all they’ve got for their fans.  And judging from some of the comments on their Facebook page, the Stamford, CT audience appreciated the efforts!!

"Love these guys to pieces!!" Robin Selden

Saw them at the Palace Theater in Stamford, CT last night. They put on a spectacular show and such nice personalities. I couldn’t sit still in my seat. The songs took me back to when I was a teenager . They did allow us to participate in some songs and we also got up to relieve all the energy they threw at us throughout the entire performance. They were the greatest.”  SBO

“GREAT SHOW LAST night in Stamford CT!! Guys were having a blast after a vacation! Fantastic show! Lots of fun!! Very nice theater! Have a great show in Princeton tonight and we will see you on June 7th in Morristown!! I am going on street crew duty today and painting the morristown area with posters!!”  DC

Midtown Men: ‘Jersey Boys’ Vets Mine ’60s Songbook for Disc, Tour

by Christina Hennessey, the Stamford Advocate

They may not be brothers by blood, but a shared passion clearly courses through the members of the Midtown Men.

“When we left `Jersey Boys,’ we missed it,” said Tony Award-winner Christian Hoff, 45. “We missed being together. We missed singing together. We missed singing the songs of the ’60s. We simply liked being together, and when we got back together, it again erupted.”

The “we” are Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Tony Award-nominee J. Robert Spencer, four of the original members of the successful Broadway hit, “Jersey Boys,” a tale of the rise of the 1960s rock ‘n’ roll group the Four Seasons.

… McCarter Theatre … ready for … big night

DATE POSTED ( Wednesday, May 8, 2013

By Keith Loria

Saturday, May 18, McCarter Theatre will be holding its annual gala with special guests, The Midtown Men, in a night labeled, Oh What a Night!    Comprising four of the original Jersey Boys from Broadway — Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard, and J. Robert Spencer — The Midtown Men perform hits from the ‘60s era, including tunes by the Beatles, The Beach Boys, Motown, The Four Seasons, and more.

”For us, these concerts in New Jersey are like coming home and singing for your family,” Mr. Reichard says.  “When we opened on Broadway, New Jersey was such a full force of making ‘Jersey Boys’ the blockbuster that it was.  The people there have always been so connected to Broadway but when ‘Jersey Boys’ opened, it became the crown jewel of the community and gave them some serious Jersey pride.”
