The Midtown Men will be performing in Midtown Manhattan this afternoon. Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard, and J. Robert Spencer will help to celebrate the unveiling of Bloomingdale’s holiday window with a performance today at 5:00. What a wonderful opportunity for the men to be back where it all began, where the fans fell in love with them before they were even The Midtown Men. And what a treat for those fans who are able to share this experience with them, live and for free in the streets of New York.
Bloomingdale’s has a rich tradition of kicking off the holiday shopping season in a big way, with performances in recent years by Tony Bennett and John Legend. Festivities kick off at 5:00 PM on the Lexington Avenue side of the 59th Street store. Get there early to secure a good spot! And don’t forget to come back here and tell us all about it.

‘Life imitating art’
Midtown Men coming to The Whiting
BY AMANDA DURISH-COOK, The Burton View
Midtown Men singer Christian Hoff describes his band’s image as the Rat Pack meets “Mad Men.”
The band mates met while performing “Jersey Boys,” a Broadway musical tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, which earned Hoff, a husband and father of five, a Tony Award.
“I grew up in a musical household so we listened to everything from jazz to punk,” Hoff says, as he drives home from music class with his two daughters. “When I was in high school, I really gravitated towards ’60s music.”
Hoff recalls that one of his first albums at age 9 was “Meet the Beatles.” By the time he reached high school in the ’70s, Hoff says he was a decade behind his other peers in musical taste.
Today Hoff can indulge his natural inclination all he wants while touring with The MIdtown Men and singing hits from groups like The Dave Clark Five, Herman’s Hermits and even Cream and Jimi Hendrix. In addition to the four singers, the ensemble features a sevenpiece rhythm and horn section that can easily tackle the clean-cut doo-wop to psychedelic sounds.
“It’s so hard for us to pick songs because we’ve got a 90 minute show and a whole decade of music,” he says.
Hoff and his band mates sift through hours of music to come up with songs that will not only resonate with them but their all-ages audience.
“When we do a show, yeah the boomers are there, but so are their parents and their kids. So sometimes there’s four generations celebrating the music with us,” Hoff says.
One of Hoff ’s favorite songs to perform — The Zombie’s “Time of the
perform — The Zombie’s “Time of the Season” — has had him in direct contact with the original band members. The same goes when the band was working on perfecting The Turtle’s “Happy Together.”
Although The Midtown Men are dedicated to authenticity — they run a completely analog show without digital enhancements and even consult the original recording artists sometimes. Hoff insists that the group isn’t out to imitate the originals but make the songs their own.
“It’s sort of like life imitating art,” said Hoff. “ We’re now living the story we created on Broadway [with Jersey Boys]. We didn’t know this was going to be possible.”
With TV shows like Pan Am and artists like Adele on radio waves, the ’60s are once again enjoying a vogue moment. The Midtown Men are experiencing the same success, and have just finished mastering an album of ’60s hits, available on iTunes.
“It was such a diverse time but such an amazing time. It’s trendy as well as timeless and it’s all relevant today,” remarks Hoff.
With the holidays just around the corner, window shopping takes on a whole new meaning in the month of November as Manhattan’s most celebrated department stores unveil their annual Holiday Windows.
Just like putting cookies out for Santa, stuffing stockings, and, for some, seeing a movie and eating Chinese food, the Bloomingdale’s holiday-themed window display is a Christmas tradition. And the store does it up big, combining the unveiling of the year’s display with performances by legendary recording artists such as Tony Bennett in 2008, Harry Connick, Jr. in 2009, John Legend in 2010 …
and in 2011 … The Midtown Men.
That’s right, Christian Hoff announced on his Facebook page that this year, he and The Midtown Men ”follow the fresh tracks of Tony Bennett, Harry Connick and John Legend, as we ring in the Holidays, “New York City Style” at the 2011 Bloomingdale’s Holiday Window Launch on November 16th.”
Congratulations Christian, Michael, Daniel and Bobby. This is exciting news, indeed! You’ve worked so hard and made so many people happy this year — it’s only fitting that you should have the spotlight in MIDTOWN Manhattan this holiday season.
Here’s a clip of last years event to get you in the spirit:
