In keeping with the 1960′s music theme of The Midtown Men, I thought this would be fun – TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF MUSIC FROM THE 60′s.

Can you name the title and artist of these 20 songs from the 60′s? Send your answers to tmmclub@comcast.net by August 13th and the person with the most correct answers will win a Midtown Club souvenir. (Please feel free to comment, but don’t put your answers in the comment section.)

Answers will be posted on August 14th.  Have fun!

Random Q & A: Michael Longoria, Part I

Catherine • July 12, 2011 • Comments (0)

Q: Out of the whole set of songs that you do for The Midtown Men, what are your favorites to perform?…..

A:  Michael - I love it when we tell the audience that we’re going to do our version of Motown, and then we bust out with the moves of the Jackson 5. I just like that when we sing it, I feel like we’re kind of bringing Michael Jackson and all that sound back. And even though we don’t sound exactly like them, and we’re doing it our own way, it‘s beautiful because when Michael Jackson was a child, the entire nation identified with this kid and fell in love with this kid. And I grew up seeing his journey, so to kind of bring it back to that pure and innocent time in his life is so special for me, for us to do. As a group, I love that song.

And you know, I don’t’ know why I love this song so much, but I just love “Bye, Bye Baby”. But then you listen to the lyrics and it’s so shady and sad….he’s talking about this girl he can’t be with because he has somebody already … but I love singing it. It’s something about where it fits in all of our voices, and where it is in the show, it’s just a really cool song.

The Midtown Men and Yogi Berra, An All-Star Combination

Catherine • July 7, 2011 • Comments (0)

Imagine my surprise and glee when I picked up this week’s Sports Illustrated magazine and saw the cover shot…none other than Hall of Famer Yogi Berra.  How apropos that SI’s “12th Annual Reunion of Heroes from the past” should lead off with one of baseball’s most beloved icons on the same week as The Midtown Men will help celebrate that same hero.

In a related SI interview, Berra is asked the question “Where are you now?”  “Where am I now”, answers Mr. Berra, “I’m at the Yogi Berra Museum.  Come on over.”

What a wonderful opportunity to do just that  this weekend.  Come out and share in this special celebration as The Midtown Men (Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and J. Robert Spencer) bring their signature sound to the hits of the 1960s in this special performance – with master of ceremonies Joe Piscopo – to benefit the Yogi Berra Museum’s educational programs.

Where:  Montclair State University, Normal Ave & Valley Rd, Upper Montclair, NJ 07043 (YOGI BERRA STADIUM)
Date:  July 9, 2011
Time:  5:00 pm.  Gates open at 5:00; concert from 6:00 to 8:00

To purchase tickets call (973) 655-2378 or e-mail joni.yogi@montclair.edu.

All tickets are tax deductible and benefit the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center.

It’s A Girl!

Catherine • July 4, 2011 • Comments (3)

Congratulations to Melissa and Christian Hoff, who welcomed baby Ella Susanne into the Hoff family on Sunday, July 3rd.  Ella joins brother Eli and sisters Erika, Elizabeth and Evelyn in the ever-expanding Hoff family.

Christian shared these thoughts on being ”blessed with another absolute miracle…God is good all the time and when He allows us to be an intimate part of His eternal plan in this way it puts the world in perspective. Life is precious, protect it, honor it and enjoy it!”

We wish the Hoffs many more blessings in all aspects of life.
